The Central Jersey Spartans will be holding Open Tryouts for their senior men’s team on Saturday and Sunday January 7 and 8 from 1-3pm on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. This is a chance for area’s best players to participate in the Premier Development League, part of the United Soccer Leagues and the nation’s top amateur league.
Competing as a member of the Spartans gives the area’s top amateur and collegiate players the opportunity to improve their abilities and place themselves in the professional spotlight. Since joining the PDL 2010, the Spartans have seen many former players move into the professional ranks, some even selected in the MLS SuperDraft.

Among those standouts are Bryan Meredith of the Seattle Sounders and Ryan Kinne of the New England Revolution. Both excelled for the Spartans and attracted the attention of their new clubs in the process. Many more have also moved into the professional ranks, including Nelson Becerra and Jose Angulo who both lifted the 2011 USL PRO trophy with the Harrisburg City Islanders. Those are just a few examples and the list continues to grow every season
The Spartans are already preparing for the 2012 season, their third season in the PDL. In their first two seasons, the Spartans made an impact on the league and they hope to continue improving. This season head coach John Newman takes command, and he is looking to keep the club moving forward.
“The most effective way to improve our club is by bringing in the top talent and creating an atmosphere conducive to making our players the best they possibly can be.” said Newman.
“In past seasons we have brought in some the best talent in the area”, remarked Spartans owner Sal Amato. “Open Tryouts allows us to connect with the local soccer community and gives players the opportunity to showcase their talents to our coaching staff.”
